Choosing a baby crib is a fun part of planning a decorating a nursery. There are certain safety requirements for cribs that are non negotiable. If you are purchasing a new crib, you can relax a little because all cribs manufactured after 1974 are required to meet certain safety standards. Some of the more important points are to make sure that your crib has not been painted with lead based paint, and make sure that the crib’s slats are no more than 2 and 3/8 inches apart. Also, there should be no decorative cut outs that baby’s head can get stuck in.

You or your spouse may decide that it would be especially meaningful to make your own baby crib. Before you decide to take on this important task, stop and think about how important a well made crib is to the well being of your baby. If you are confident in your wood working experience, you can begin to build your own baby crib. If you do not already have a set of plans for cribs, you can look at your local woodworking shop or online for a wood working plan for cribs. There are many styles to choose from. Again, make sure that the crib you are building meets safety requirements.

Crib Bedding And Accessories For Cribs

Once you have chosen your crib, you can begin looking for infant crib bedding sets. Before you choose your crib bedding, make sure that your crib mattress is in place. Crib mattresses must be firm, and should fit snugly into your crib. Make sure that there is no gap between mattress and crib.

Purchasing baby crib bedding can be a fun task if you know what you want. There are tons of crib bedding sets that include all the elements of crib bedding. A crib bedding set will usually include a dust ruffle, sheet, comforter and bumper pad for your crib. Some crib sets will also include other elements such as mobiles and pillows.

If you prefer to purchase your crib bedding as separates, you can do that as well. Baby crib sheets are available at most retail outlets where baby items are sold. Crib sheets come in many colors and patterns and are usually very affordable.

It is also possible to find a variety of accessories for baby cribs. For example, crib tents are a neat safety enhancement for cribs. They cover the crib and protect the baby from things that might jump into cribs, such as cats.
