Playtime

Playtime should be fun time. But how does one make play time fun for children? This short article will give a few ideas on how to come up with fun playtime for children. These are only suggestions, what works best for each individual child is best determined by the child them self with some help from the parents.

Some Traditional Ideas

Kids have great imaginations. One of the great ways to make playtime for kids a rewarding time is to simply allow kids to explore their imaginations. This means giving them simple toys and ideas that leaves plenty of room for them to be creative and think up their own activities. Children actually prefer that things not be all thought out for them. Simple costumes can ignite imagination. Space age to medieval to colonial playtime costumes each lead to different games as the kids’ imagination can come up with. With only a little help and encouragement many little girls will invent a princess playtime. Just give them a little help with costumes and props. The concept behind quilters playtime is to provide children with pieces of fabric so kids can discover new creative energies. These games with fabric are similar to games with blocks or other construction toys. Some boys may be less inclined to play with fabric if they have been conditioned to think of crafts as a girlie activity. Each holiday playtime can revolve around the theme of that holiday.

Age Appropriate Playtime Toys

Playtime for a one year old child means very simple toys. For an infant play time is something like blocks or other small objects that can be easily moved and manipulated. Toys that make sounds or other feedback in response to the infant’s movements and actions are good. Babies and toddlers like bath time play which also are simple water proof toys. As the children age they can be encouraged to do playtime with more and more intellectually and physically challenging toys and games. Of course a child cannot be expected to play word games much beyond their capacity and ability to read, but games that challenge them just beyond their current abilities is very good for them to learn. Keep small objects away from infants always and any toy should be considered in terms of danger factor. The younger the child involved the more simple, less breakable, and just plain less dangerous the toys and playtime activities should be.
